Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program

Colorectal cancer screening saves lives.
What is the Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program?
The Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program is a colorectal cancer screening program funded by the Arizona Department of Health Services. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer through screening and early detection. Through the Fit at Fifty HealthCheck Program, FREE screening is available for qualifying Arizona residents.
What is Colorectal Cancer?
Colorectal cancer is cancer that occurs in the colon or rectum. Sometimes it is called colon cancer for short.
The Second Leading Cancer Killer
Among cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the U.S. But if everyone 50 or older had regular screening tests, as many as 60% of deaths from this cancer could be avoided.
Who gets Colorectal Cancer?
* Both men and women can get colorectal cancer.
* Most often found in people 50 and older.
* The risk increases with age.
* Colon cancer occurs more often in some racial/ethnic groups.
Who is Eligible for Screening?
* Arizona residents aged 50 or older.
* Men and women within income guidelines (a family of four can make up to $55,125 annually and qualify).
* Individuals who have NOT had a colonoscopy in the past 10 years or a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) in the last year. The program cannot screen individuals with ulcerative colitis, crohn’s colitis, genetic syndromes such as familial adenomatous polyposis or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer.
* To find out if you qualify, call 928.213.6104 or 1.800.687.5798 ext. 2373
What are the Symptoms?
People who have polyps or colorectal cancer do not always have symptoms, especially at first. Someone could have polyps or colorectal cancer and not know it. If there are symptoms, they may include:
* Blood in or on your stool.
* Stomach aches, pains, or cramps that happen a lot and you don’t know why.
* A change in bowel habits, such as having stools that are narrower than usual.
* Losing weight and you don’t know why.
If you have any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor. These symptoms may be caused by something other than cancer. However, the only way to know what is causing them is to get screened.
