A summer camp in July for future health leaders
April 4, 2010
As health care reform becomes a reality, more people will have health insurance and we can anticipate that they will show up in greater numbers at health care providers. This is good news for the uninsured, but it will pose a challenge for the health care system to meet the growing demand for services.
In northern Arizona, there are already shortages of primary care physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals.
For Arizona to meet the challenge, it will be important for us to grow our own health professionals, and we will need to make sure there are students in the pipelines to health careers. For high school students, it is not too soon to learn about pathways to health professions.
July 11-23, 2010, high school students will have the opportunity to attend a two-week residential program at Northern Arizona University called the Future Health Leaders Summer Camp. There is no charge for the program and it is open to students from all over Arizona.
