FIT at Fifty HealthCheck

The FIT at Fifty HealthCheck Program, based out of North Country HealthCare, provides free colorectal cancer screening to qualifying men and women in Mohave, Coconino and Navajo Counties. Free diagnostic testing is also available. Additionally, if a person is diagnosed with cancer through the program, we can link the patient to free or reduced-cost treatment services.

The FIT at Fifty HealthCheck staff strive to make the patient feel comfortable and well-informed. Since education plays a vital role, clients are encouraged to be advocates for their own health whenever possible. The goal of the program is to reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer through screening and early detection.

What is colorectal cancer?

Colorectal cancer is cancer that occurs in the colon or rectum. Sometimes it is called colon cancer for short. Among cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the U.S. However, if everyone 50 or older had regular screening tests, as many as 60% of deaths from this cancer could be avoided.

Who gets colorectal cancer?

  • Both men and women can get colorectal cancer.
  • Most often found in people 50 and older.
  • The risk increases with age.
  • Colon cancer occurs more often in some racial/ethnic groups.

Who is eligible for free colorectal cancer screening?

  • Arizona residents aged 50 or older. (Younger individuals may qualify if they have a first degree family history of colorectal cancer).
  • Uninsured men and women within income guidelines (a family of four can make up to $55,875 annually and qualify).
  • Individuals who have NOT had a colonoscopy in the past 10 years or a Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) in the last year. The program cannot screen individuals with ulcerative colitis, crohn’s colitis, genetic syndromes such as familial adenomatous polyposis or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer.
